To Earth Hour and beyond! Lights out for Hungary’s International Airport

The Hungarian International Airport in Budapest will switch off an entire airstrip for Earth Hour at 8.30pm on Saturday night in a symbolic display of its commitment to go beyond the hour.

    Airfield

The special airstrip illuminators, which can normally be seen from a 20 kilometre (12.5 mile) height, will turn off acknowledging a light-system refit which has resulted in a significant reduction in the amount of energy the airstrip uses. Other areas of the Budapest Airport will also operate in a reduced mode with non-essential lighting switched off for Earth Hour to add to the visual effect of this powerful symbolic act.

We have been assured that airport staff are well prepared for the temporary black-out, which will take place under strict national and international control to ensure the utmost passenger and aviation safety.

How will you go up up and beyond for Earth Hour 2011? Tell the world at earthhour.org/beyondthehour.

Earth Hour, organized by worldwide fund for nature, reflects that we care for nature and vow to prevent its degradation and our commitment to preserve it. "Mother Earth" is always adored by Indians, as we value it so precious.

Earth Hour organized by Worldwide Fund for Nature, should send a message across the globe that we care and are bound to protect the "Mother" Earth. It is sad that we overexploit our nature for selfish gains and many natural resources are getting depleted or degraded by His activities. Many programmes like this should be organized throughout the year to spread the message of conservation of energy and Nature.

Being a citizen of a country where we have sever shortage of electricity. Where citizens and Industries have to suffer due to hours of electricity load shedding. I would like to request every citizen of Pakistan to be part of this initiative by WWF and make a commitment to save as much resources as much we can.

Alone we are one, together we are billions. Lets be part of this initiative and spread this message across the gobe.

If you truly care for the environment, you help save not only one hour a year - seems like "penance" for the waste you do the whole year. You do your best to save - every second. Otherwise, your earth hour is futile.
